Afgrund: Svarta dagar

09/10/08  ||  Kampfar

Afgrund translates to bottom-less pit, hellhole, abyss, gulf, in other words, a place you could throw people into, preferably utterly crap ones, and make them meet their death while screaming. Awesome. The word could also, in an abstract manner, be used to describe the private parts of an open minded and well traveled woman. You know, loose and hanging, perhaps even containing a disease or ten, hence the funky smell.

How in hell am I gonna fluently switch from speaking about rancid cunt to grind core with what I think is crust or whatever? Fuck if I know.

Anyfuckingway, Afgrund is a multinational collaboration grinding the Swedish way, from Sweden and Finland, sounding, roughly put, as a mix between Nasum and Skitsystem. So, this lot is very low on originality, extremely even, but their hate, anger and despair is genuine and their skills top-notch, which enables them to convey all those shitty feelings in a manner keeping Kampfar from feeling angry in solitude.

Oh shit, my eye-liner is running.

Fuck you asshole, for I must also mention that “Svarta dagar” sounds smashing, and smacked in the middle, or bottom, you have a fat rumbling bass, properly distorted at it. Very nice, but it is best heard when the guys aren’t trying to finish off their instruments. Which they do a lot. But even when they do, its presence ensures the music doesn’t end up thinner than Chinese paper walls. Or was it Japanese? Hmm, I have this memory in the back of my head bringing up this tiny little image of a ninja dude throwing what young me spoke of as ninja star through one of them walls and into a yellow face belonging to a ching-chong dude soon afterwards dead. Who cares, this piece of mothercunt-sucking, white-thrash sure can’t spot the difference between this or that gook anyway.

I mentioned the bass, but it’s not the only thing done right by the knob turner responsible for tuning this platter of mangle done right. In fact, I dare say he/she/it/E.T hasn’t done a damn thing wrong. I don’t know about you, fuckwit, but this pony raping mongoloid sure appreciates a gritty and punch-y mix still offering a chance to discern one instrument from the other.

Afgrund is as mentioned low on own ideas but this band have all the set-pieces necessary to release something utterly noteworthy, and not just close to very good and satisfying, in the near future. Keep the drive, experiment without watering down, and, voila, I cum. A lot, of course.

My opinion matters, simple fact.

7,8 out of 10.
